Account Activations

Overview

Once your account has been created, you will be required to activate in order to access SHSU resources.  The email you will receive is from IT Service Desk.  Be sure to check your junk folder!

Welcome to Sam Houston State University, %FNAME%!

Your SHSU computer account is ready, and the next step is to activate it so you can start using all your university services.

Your username is %USERNAME%. 
Your email address is %USERNAME%@shsu.edu

To activate your account, click the following link and follow the prompts on the screen.

Once you complete the activation process, will be able to access SHSU applications like MySam and take care of other important tasks. However, it may take up to 24 hours before your email inbox is fully ready to send and receive messages. Don’t worry — anything sent to you during that time will be safely queued and delivered as soon as your inbox becomes available.

Alternative Activation Steps

Follow the below steps in the event that you delete the original email or need to reactivate your account after inactivity. 

  1. Visit account.shsu.edu and select "Activate Account."

  2. Choose one of the following activation methods:

    • Option 1: Send an activation link to your off-site email. Clicking the link will guide you through the activation process.

    • Option 2: If you don’t remember your off-site email or no longer have access to it, you can activate your account using a One-Time Token (OTT) and your username. Contact the IT Service Desk at 936-294-1950 to obtain a OTT. A photo ID verification will be required.

The Account Self-Service Portal allows SHSU users to manage key account settings such as email aliases, password resets and changes, quota checks, and off-site contact updates. Access is available at https://account.shsu.edu, and users must have a valid off-site contact on file to use certain features like password recovery and account activation.
