Google Gemini is an artificial intelligence system available to faculty, staff, and students. This system is best for brainstorming topics, drafting communication, and synthesizing information.
How To Access:
In your web browser, go to https://gemini.google.com and sign in with your SHSU email address (non-alias) and password.
Mobile apps are also available for Android and Apple iOS. Once this app is downloaded, you would authenticate in the same way as in a browser.
File Storage
File storage may be required based on the type of prompts and end product you are looking to produce. Google Drive is available to store files for use in Gemini.
The "AI Connection": Drive + Gemini
- Google Drive acts as the bridge between your data and your AI assistants:
- Gemini Extension: You can ask Gemini questions about your Drive directly.
- Prompt: "@Google Drive, find the latest syllabus for Biology 101 and summarize the grading policy.
Best Practices
- Verify Accuracy: AI can occasionally produce incorrect information. Always fact-check citations and technical data.
- Privacy First: Do not upload sensitive or confidential data, unpublished proprietary research, or PII (Personally Identifiable Information).
- Transparency: If using AI to generate course content, it is best practice to model transparency for your students by noting where AI was used.
