Prohibited Devices

To ensure network security while providing reliable internet access, the following devices are not supported on the SHSU network:

  • Routers
  • Wireless printers without cloud printing option
  • Personal surveillance cameras (e.g., Nest Cameras)

Technology Prohibited by Regulation

In spring 2023 some technologies became prohibited on state devices and networks. You can find a list of current restrictions and additional information on how these new laws and policies are carried out at SHSU. This will means that some websites (e.g. TikTok) will not be available on the SHSU wi-fi network with an exception for our residence hall students.

Software and devices used at SHSU, whether purchased or free, must be reviewed by IT to ensure compatibility, support, and adherence to compliance. Laws and regulations technology must comply with Prohibited Technology Legislation, TAC 202, TX-RAMP, TAC 213 and Section 508.
