Email is prone to disclosure of information. Email encryption protects the content of email messages from exposure to entities other than the intended recipients.
At SHSU, we use features provided in Office 365 to allow SHSU users to encrypt email on a case-by-case basis when sending to recipients outside of the organization.

Sending an Encrypted Email (Classic Outlook)
In order to send an encrypted email using the Outlook desktop app:
Select Options, then Encrypt, then Encrypt-Only.

In order to send an encrypted email using the Outlook web app, select Encrypt.

Sending an Encrypted Email (New Outlook)
Select Options, then click the lock icon. Click Encrypt.
Viewing and Receiving an Encrypted Email
- In the email, click Read the Message. You will be taken to another screen.
- Click Sign in with a One-time passcode. You will receive an email with the passcode.
- Enter the one time passcode from the email.
- Email will be available for viewing.
*If you do not receive your one-time passcode, click the "get another one-time passcode" link to receive another.
