Adding Printers on MacOS

AD Bound Devices

Most iMacs and Mac Minis will be AD bound. To find out if a device is bound to AD, check AD for its node.
1.First, select the Apple Logo at the top left of the screen and select System Settings.
2.Select Printers and Scanners, then select Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
3.Click on the Globe icon. It should be the second icon.
4.In the top section, fill in the following information:
a.Address: hostname of the printer
b.Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
c.Queue:
i.Leave this field blank
5.In the bottom section, fill in the following information:
a.Name: hostname of the printer
b.Location:
i.Leave this field blank
c.The Use drop-down is the driver section.
i.If the printer is an HP printer, choose Generic PostScript. Sometimes using HP specific drivers can cause prints to hang in the print queue on the iMac or Mac Mini and never actually completes.
ii.If the printer is not an HP printer, the model specific driver for that printer will be needed. Change the Protocol to AirPrint. This should pull the correct driver. If it does not, in a web browser, navigate to the printer model’s website and download the driver. Install the driver and then go back to the Use drop-down. Choose Select Software and find the printer specific driver in the list. Click OK and then Add to add the printer.
6.If requested, the printer can then be set as the default printer by right clicking on the printer and selecting Set Default Printer.

This applies to all MacBooks and the occasional iMac and Mac Mini.
1.First, select the Apple Logo at the top left of the screen and select System Settings.
2.Select Printers and Scanners, then select Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
3.Choose the Advanced icon (two gears).
a.If you do not see the Advanced icon, right click on the top area next to the other icons and choose Customize Toolbar. Look for the Advanced icon and drag it to the toolbar next to the other icons to add it.
4.In the top section, fill in the following information:
a.Type: Internet Printing Protocol (https)
b.Device: Another Device
c.URL: https://ipp.shsu.edu/printers/PRINTERNAME
